Brigid Kosgei Triumphs at Great North Run After McColgan's Withdrawal

Kenya’s Brigid Kosgei secured a decisive victory in the women’s race at the Great North Run, clocking a time of one hour, six minutes, and 15 seconds. This event took place after Great Britain's Eilish McColgan withdrew due to a foot injury sustained early in the half-marathon.
McColgan, 35, was returning to racing after recovering from a broken toe but limped off the course. Kosgei, an Olympic silver medallist and former London Marathon winner, dominated the race from the start, despite her time being slower than her course record of 1:04:28 set seven years ago.
She finished over two minutes ahead of Sheila Chepkirui, last year’s winner, who came in second. Amy-Eloise Neale was the first British athlete to finish, placing fifth overall.
McColgan, who had previously finished third in the Great North Run last year, had suffered her toe injury during the London Marathon in April and had to miss the Commonwealth Games in July.
