Kukah Addresses Ecological Injustices Fueling Conflicts in Nigeria and Africa

Catholic Archbishop Kukah addressed the ecological injustices fueling conflicts in Nigeria and Africa during the 24th Chief S.L. Edu Memorial Lecture in Lagos.

Kukah attributed persistent conflicts to the exploitation of natural resources, resulting in environmental degradation and social tensions. He condemned the exploitation of land and water resources without consent, leading to economic disparities and communal unrest.

Kukah emphasized the need for environmental protection and sustainable resource management to prevent further conflicts. The lecture, supported by the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and Chevron, underscored the importance of environmental awareness and shared responsibility.

Bukola Adebiyi, in her remarks, highlighted the urgency for decisive environmental action, especially within faith communities. Grace Adewale Martin emphasized the necessity of caring for the earth as a moral obligation.

The event paid tribute to the late Chief S.L. Edu, the founder of NCF, and recognized Chevron's sponsorship of the lecture series.
