Kuti Wins First Title at ITTF Africa Youth Cup

At the 2026 ITTF Africa Youth Cup held on July 29 at the Borteyman Sports Complex, Nigeria’s Matthew Kuti claimed his first continental title in the boys’ U-19 singles by defeating compatriot Sultan Agunbiade with a score of 4–1. Kuti's victory was significant as it marked a redemption after previously unsuccessful attempts at the Africa Youth Championships, where he had lost in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, he overcame Egypt’s Abdelmalk Elsayed 4–2 to reach the final. Agunbiade also had a remarkable journey, defeating defending champion Wassim Essid of Tunisia 4–1 in the semifinals.

In the girls’ U-19 singles, Egypt’s Habiba Elbasoumy emerged victorious against Algeria’s Jade Morice with a score of 4–1. Additionally, Tunisia’s Ela Saidi won the U-15 girls’ singles title by defeating Uganda’s Patience Anyango 3–0, while Egypt’s Asser Sameh dominated the boys’ U-15 event, remaining undefeated throughout the competition.
