Kwara CP Prohibits Indiscriminate Phone Searches by Police Officers at Checkpoints

Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, has banned indiscriminate phone searches by police officers at checkpoints. The directive, issued during a briefing with senior police officers, emphasizes professionalism, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for extortion and harassment.

Commissioner Ojo highlighted that officers must not interfere in civil cases without criminal elements or unlawfully search citizens' phones. The ban on phone searches is effective immediately, except in cases where a device is confirmed as an exhibit in an ongoing investigation.

Commissioner Ojo warned of severe disciplinary action for officers who violate this directive and reassured the public, especially students and young people, that they will not be unfairly targeted.
