Lagos Police Warn Officers Against Illegal Phone Searches, Rights Violations

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos, Moshood Jimoh, has issued a warning to officers against illegal practices such as searching young people's phones without proper cause. Jimoh emphasized the need for policing to respect citizens' rights and dignity, highlighting that unauthorized phone searches constitute a violation of human rights and are prohibited by law.

The directive aligns with the mandate of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure professional conduct within the force. Jimoh cited recent successes in the command, including the arrest of individuals involved in violent crimes and vehicle vandalism.

The commissioner stressed the importance of conducting investigations within the confines of the law and respecting the privacy of individuals.
