Kwara Law Officers Demand Equal Pay with Magistrates

The Kwara State Chapter of the Law Officers Association of Nigeria has formally requested Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to harmonize the salaries and allowances of state counsel with those of magistrates in the state judiciary. This appeal was made in a letter dated September 8, 2026, signed by Chairman Kehinde Ayorinde and Assistant Secretary Remisola Afolabi.

The association expressed gratitude for the governor's recent approval of outstanding allowances owed to state counsel, which they believe demonstrates his commitment to workers' welfare. However, they emphasized that the harmonization of salaries remains an unresolved issue.

The association had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum in July regarding unpaid allowances and other welfare concerns, which led to an indefinite strike affecting legal services across various state ministries. Following the strike, the state government approved the payment of outstanding furniture allowances for the years 2016-2020 and additional allowances for 2024, 2025, and 2026.
