Kwara Law Officers Threaten Indefinite Strike Over Pay

Law officers in the Kwara State Ministry of Justice have threatened to embark on an indefinite strike due to the non-payment of outstanding statutory allowances and the failure to harmonize their salaries and conditions of service with those of magistrates. The Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, issued a seven-day notice of strike in a letter dated July 20, 2026, addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The letter, signed by Acting Chairman Keyinde Ayorinde and Secretary Tolulope Oniyide, states that if their demands are not met by July 26, 2026, they will proceed with the strike. The association claims to have made multiple appeals to the governor and the Office of the Head of Service regarding their unpaid allowances, which include the balance of the 50 percent furniture allowance for 2020 and robe allowances for 2024, 2025, and 2026.

They also demand the implementation of salary harmonization in line with a 2005 approval, emphasizing that their welfare is critical to the administration of justice.
