Kwara Lawyers Launch Indefinite Strike Over Allowances

Law officers in the Kwara State Ministry of Justice began an indefinite strike on July 27, 2026, due to the alleged non-payment of outstanding statutory allowances and the failure to harmonize their salaries and conditions of service with those of magistrates. The strike was announced by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria, Kwara State Chapter, through a notice signed by Acting Chairman Kehinde Ayorinde.

Members were directed to withdraw their services until the government responds to their demands. The association had previously issued a seven-day ultimatum to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq regarding unresolved welfare concerns, including unpaid 2020 furniture allowances and robe allowances for 2024, 2025, and 2026.

Despite previous assurances following a three-day warning strike in October 2025, the government had not addressed these issues. The association emphasized the critical roles its members play in the administration of justice, including prosecuting criminal cases and providing legal advice.
