Kwara State Urges Timely Tax Payments for Development

Kwara State has called for prompt tax payments from its citizens to strengthen its internal revenue generation (IGR) capabilities. Shade Omoniyi, the chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, stated that every tax remittance is not merely a legal obligation but an investment in the state's development.

This appeal comes amid ongoing tax reforms aimed at creating a fairer and more equitable tax system across the country. Omoniyi explained that the reforms are intended to reduce the tax burden on low-income earners while ensuring that individuals contribute a fair share towards national and state development.

She particularly urged high net worth individuals in the state to comply with their tax obligations in a timely manner, noting that their contributions are vital for expanding the state's revenue base. The service is committed to transparent and efficient tax administration, making compliance easier for taxpayers, while also warning that enforcement measures will be applied when necessary to ensure adherence to tax laws.
