Kwara State Launches Digital Haulage Fee Payment System

The Kwara State Government has announced a crackdown on illegal roadblocks and unauthorized fee collection by transport unions within the state. Shade Omoniyi, the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service, stated that the government will implement a digital haulage fee payment system as part of broader tax reforms aimed at improving revenue collection.

This new system will replace traditional practices of roadside fee collection, ensuring enhanced transparency, accountability, and efficiency. The digital platform will facilitate the payment process electronically, eliminating multiple levies and unauthorized checkpoints.

Omoniyi emphasized that transport operators must register to obtain an official haulage tag, which is mandatory for identifying services operating within the state. Any individual or group found erecting illegal roadblocks or collecting fees without authorization will face sanctions according to the law.

The government urges transport taxpayers to comply with the new system and seek clarification from the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
