Real Madrid's Ferland Mendy Faces Long Injury Layoff

Ferland Mendy, the left-back for Real Madrid, has encountered another injury setback, suffering a thigh injury that will keep him sidelined for several months. Reports from Spanish media indicate that Mendy sustained the injury during a match against Espanyol, where he was replaced after just 14 minutes.

This injury is particularly concerning as it marks Mendy's 16th injury since he joined Real Madrid from Lyon in 2019. Following tests conducted today, it was confirmed that he has a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg.

Mendy is expected to undergo surgery soon. His last appearance for the French national team was in June 2024, and due to this injury, his inclusion in Didier Deschamps' World Cup squad appears unlikely.
