Labour Party Forms Screening Committee for 2027 Elections

The Labour Party has formed an eight-member screening committee tasked with evaluating aspirants for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This decision was announced in a public notice jointly signed by the party's National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary, Iheanacho Obioma, on Friday in Abuja.

The committee was established in accordance with the provisions of the party's constitution and the electoral guidelines for the 2026 primaries. Nenadi Usman will chair the committee, which includes members Oluchi Okpara, Moh Salisu, Martina Umana, Deborah Yusuf, Chibuzo Okerek, and Dr.

Olu Ayewo. Obioma will serve as the committee's secretary.

The committee is responsible for screening aspirants contesting for presidential, governorship, and national assembly positions, and will verify the authenticity of documents submitted by the aspirants to ensure compliance with the party's electoral act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The screening for House of Assembly and governorship aspirants is scheduled for May 20, while presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22.
