Adenike Oshinowo Appointed New Clerk of Lagos Assembly

Barr. Adenike Oshinowo has been appointed as the new Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, following the retirement of Barr.

Olalekan Onafeko on April 28, 2026. Oshinowo is notable for being the first woman to hold this position in the Assembly's history.

She is an expert in legislative drafting and brings extensive experience in parliamentary administration and legal advisory services within the public sector. Oshinowo holds an LL.M. from the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies and an LL.B. from Lagos State University.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1995 and began her career in private practice before joining the Lagos State civil service in 1997 as a legal draftsman. Oshinowo served in the Lagos State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2006, later working with the Ministry of Justice, and returned to the Assembly in 2008.

She rose through the ranks to become Deputy Clerk in 2021 and now serves as Clerk. Oshinowo is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Bar Association and the International Bar Association, and has received a long service award from the Lagos State House of Assembly.
