Lagos Assembly Removes Clerk, Appoints New Leadership

The Lagos State House of Assembly has officially removed Mr. Olalekan Onafeko from his position as clerk, effective immediately.

This decision was reached during a plenary session on Tuesday, where lawmakers adopted a voice vote, indicating broad support for the removal. Speaker Mr.

Mudashiru Obasa presided over the proceedings, explaining that Onafeko's tenure had elapsed, and the decision was procedural rather than disciplinary. Onafeko had served as clerk since January 14, 2022, overseeing legislative administration and coordinating house activities.

Following his removal, Adenik Osinowo was appointed as the new clerk and is expected to assume his duties immediately. Speaker Obasa expressed confidence in Osinowo's capacity to strengthen the legislative process and enhance administrative efficiency.

Additionally, the assembly confirmed Latifat Ogbara as the chairman of the Lagos State House Assembly Service Commission, citing her commendable track record in public service. Remi Bello was also confirmed as a member of the commission to support institutional reform.
