Lagos E-Hailing Drivers Demand Fair Pay and Reforms

E-hailing drivers in Lagos are calling for fair pay and reforms as they face unsustainable fare structures and increasing operational costs. Mr.

Steven Iwindoy, a spokesperson for the drivers, highlighted the challenges posed by rising fuel prices and vehicle maintenance costs, which have made it difficult for drivers to earn a decent income. Despite working long hours, the commission deducted by platforms like Bolt leaves drivers with minimal earnings.

The drivers have attended several meetings to discuss these issues, but their engagement has not led to practical improvements. They are also concerned about safety issues and unfair deactivation policies that have been introduced without adequate consultation.

Iwindoy emphasized the need for real reforms, a fair pricing structure, and stronger protections for drivers. He urged unity among drivers and cautioned against proposals for roundtable meetings until there is clear evidence that such engagements will lead to genuine solutions that address their concerns.
