Sanwo-Olu Promises Opebi-Odoiya Alaro Bridge Opens by Christmas

The Lagos State Government has attributed the delay in opening the Opebi-Odoiya Alaro Bridge to the installation of an additional steel monument, which is about 80% complete. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu assured that the bridge would open to traffic before Christmas 2026.
The original target for opening the bridge was the end of September 2026, which was missed. The monument, conceived during the final stage of construction, reflects the area's historical association with cane weaving and involves approximately 300 tonnes of steel at a height of 25 metres.
Sanwo-Olu visited the project site to assess progress and emphasized the importance of safely completing the installation before opening. He commended the efforts of the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and construction workers while urging them to expedite the remaining work.
The Opebi-Odoiya Alaro Bridge, also known as the Ojota-Opebi Link Bridge, was commissioned by President Bola Tinubu in April 2026 but has not yet been opened for public use.
