Lagos Government Intensifies Crackdown on Car Spotters

The Lagos State Government has announced a crackdown on individuals known as car spotters, who are accused of stopping, harassing, and extorting motorists, particularly luxury vehicle drivers, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat made this declaration during a broadcast on Nigeria Info FM, emphasizing that such activities are criminal and will not be tolerated.

He stated that security agencies have begun operations to identify and apprehend those involved, with several arrests already made and some suspects facing legal proceedings. Surveillance cameras along the expressway have been instrumental in tracking offenders.

Hamzat confirmed that some suspects are already appearing before a Magistrate Court, indicating a shift from mere arrests to prosecution. The government aims to ensure that motorists can use public roads without intimidation or unlawful demands.
