Lagos Government Intensifies Crackdown on Road Extortion

The Lagos State Government has escalated its crackdown on suspected hoodlums extorting motorists along the Lekki-Ajah expressway. Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced this initiative in a post on X, detailing a midnight operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) aimed at apprehending individuals terrorizing motorists by demanding money and damaging vehicles.

Wahab emphasized that the RRS would continue to implement intelligence-driven strategies to combat criminal activities that threaten public safety and disrupt traffic flow. He noted that previous efforts to remove street urchins from various areas of Lagos had been undermined by financial support from celebrities and the public, which encourages their return.

Wahab urged residents to avoid actions that promote street begging and disorder, stressing the importance of cooperation between the public and government agencies to create safer roads across Lagos.
