Lagos State Launches Online Religious Pre-Marital Course

On [date not specified], Lagos State launched a religious pre-marital online counseling course designed to equip faith leaders and marriage counselors with essential knowledge and tools to prevent domestic violence and promote healthy relationships. The initiative was announced by Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

She highlighted the critical role of religious institutions in preventing domestic violence, noting that 80% of survivors in Lagos undergo religious ceremonies. The course comprises ten modules covering topics such as marriage foundations, emotional intelligence, safety, protection, and legal literacy.

The program aims to achieve four major outcomes, including standardizing pre-marital counseling and promoting social stability. The Lagos State government, under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, is committed to reducing domestic violence as part of its zero-tolerance policy on sexual and gender-based violence.
