Lagos Mandates Resident Registration for School Admission

The Lagos State Government has announced that from the 2026/2027 academic session, effective September 14, 2026, all public and private schools in Lagos must require valid registration with the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) for the admission and enrolment of learners. This directive was communicated by Adepeju Adeyemi, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), and approved by Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun.

The initiative aims to create a comprehensive database of learners, improving planning and service delivery in the education sector. Schools are instructed to document each learner's LASRRA registration number and to inform parents and guardians about this new requirement.

The OEQA, led by Dr Sulaimon Olagoke Ogunmuyiwa, will collaborate with LASRRA to facilitate the registration process and ensure compliance through routine monitoring. The government also emphasized the importance of data protection in handling learners' personal information.
