Flooding Strands Residents in Ajah and Mafoluku Communities

Residents of Ajah and Mafoluku communities are currently stranded due to severe flooding that has submerged a 200-meter stretch of road, forcing commuters to navigate through waist-deep water. Mr.

Rukayat reported that motorists were turning back and abandoning vehicles, while others attempted to walk through the flooded areas. The flooding has been attributed to poor drainage infrastructure, with residents noting that overgrown vegetation and sand deposits are obstructing major canals, reducing their capacity to discharge stormwater.

Mr. Iriagbons Okunkpolor, a resident of Agboola Street, described a recent ordeal where a short trip to buy household items turned into a lengthy struggle due to sudden flooding.

Mr. Mukaila Idri expressed concern over the dangers posed by the floodwaters, while Mr.

William Ekpo mentioned that flooding damages household items and occurs almost every rainy season. Residents are urging relevant authorities to investigate the persistent flooding and improve drainage infrastructure to prevent future occurrences.
