20-Year-Old LASU Graduate Shares Valuable Life Lessons

Mautonthen Hunwi, a 20-year-old fresh graduate, announced her completion of a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology from Lagos State University (LASU) in August 2026. Despite her impressive academic portfolio, Hunwi initially considered keeping her graduation private, reflecting on her internal pressures to achieve more.

She learned significant lessons during her university years, particularly about slowing down and existing without the constant need to prove her worth through accomplishments. A pivotal realization for her was unlearning the belief that her value depended on her productivity.

A line from a poem by Havfy Hafsat Abdullahi, "That someone else is winning doesn't mean you're losing," helped shift her perspective on comparing herself to others. Hunwi expressed gratitude towards her friends, mentors, lecturers, and colleagues for their support, and she emphasized that while ambition is important, she aims to move forward without the fear of stagnation.
