Lagos Upgrades Water Facilities to Enhance Supply

The Lagos State Government has initiated the installation of new pumps at the Iju Headworks and Akute Water Intake Stations as part of a project to enhance water production and reliability of public water supply in Lagos. This intervention, implemented through the Lagos Water Corporation, is part of the rehabilitation of the Iju Headworks and Akute Intake Station under Lots 1, 2, and 3 of the project.

The eight-month rehabilitation program, funded by the state government, is scheduled to run from February to October 2026 and includes the rehabilitation of the Iju and Adiyan water treatment plants. The project focuses on upgrading critical pumping systems and infrastructure, with the Lagos Water Corporation stating that it will restore operational efficiency and strengthen water production capacity.

Mukhtaar Tijani, Managing Director of the Lagos Water Corporation, emphasized the importance of timely delivery and revitalizing critical water infrastructure to improve residents' access to reliable public water supply.
