Lalong Supports Local Government Autonomy in Nigeria

On Monday in Abuja, Senator Simon Bako Lalong expressed his commitment to legislative support for local government autonomy across Nigeria. During the inauguration of Hon. Iliyasu Zakari as the patron of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Lalong assured that the ongoing constitutional amendment process would address existing legal challenges concerning local government autonomy.

He noted that this issue has received priority attention and that Nigerians would soon see the outcomes of these efforts. Lalong emphasized President Bola Tinubu's commitment to strengthening local governance, which includes pushing for legal and policy measures that support autonomy.

Hon. Iliyasu Zakari reaffirmed ALGON's commitment to collaborating with the federal government to advance its agenda across Nigeria's 774 local government areas. Additionally, Hon. Shaban Ohinoyi described the inauguration as a turning point for ALGON to overcome internal challenges and contribute meaningfully to governance at the grassroots level.
