LAMATA Consults Freight Operators for New Policy Framework

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has initiated consultations with freight operators and industry associations to create a new regulatory framework designed to enhance the movement of goods across Lagos. This engagement, the fourth in a series, aimed to address issues such as regulatory duplication, illegal charges, truck staging, digital integration, and road safety.

Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director of LAMATA, represented by Technical Adviser Osa Konyeha, emphasized that the proposed framework would not impose additional financial burdens on freight operators but would simplify regulatory processes and reduce delays. The consultation involved stakeholders like Mohammed Sani from the Association of Maritime Truck Owners and Yinka Onigbinde from the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria, among others.

Participants were nominated for a forthcoming synthesis workshop to review and consolidate recommendations. This engagement is part of a broader effort by LAMATA to assess Lagos' freight ecosystem, following previous sessions with government agencies and private logistics operators.
