Umunenweze Villagers Urge Abia Govt to Enforce Court Order

Members of Umunenweze village in the Okaiuga Nkwoegwu autonomous community, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State, have urgently appealed to the Abia State government for intervention against land grabbing activities that threaten their ancestral land. During a protest on Wednesday, spokesperson Onyekachi Igbojionu expressed concerns that some community members have unlawfully donated land, reserved for farming and housing, to private estate developers without the consent of the village.

HU/163/2022, land grabbing has persisted. The community fears that the situation could lead to hunger and violence, particularly affecting women who are now afraid to farm on the disputed land.

Igbojionu urged Governor Alex Otti to take action to prevent potential bloodshed. The Abia State government had previously acknowledged receiving petitions regarding the land on June 3, 2026, promising to resolve the matter amicably.
