Landlord Faces Charges for Arson Against Tenant's Property

Akande was arraigned on a four-count felony charge following an incident on August 19, 2026, in Okusa, Akungba-Akoko, where he allegedly set fire to property belonging to his tenant, Aseluwa Ezekiel. The police prosecutor, Olasunkanmi Boboye, stated that the destroyed items included a bed, bed frame, clothes, a carpet, a gas cylinder, a travelling box, shoes, curtains, rods, and cash, totaling a value of N898,000.

Additionally, some official documents were reportedly destroyed in the fire. The alleged actions contravened Section 249(D) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Akande pleaded not guilty to the charges and indicated to the court that he had health challenges, and he was not represented by legal counsel. Presiding Magistrate Kolapo Kolawole granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 and adjourned the case until September 9, 2026, for further hearing.
