LASEMA Begins Demolition of Fire-Damaged Building

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) commenced the demolition of a fire-damaged building located on Martin Street, Lagos Island, as part of efforts to safeguard lives and property. The announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Okosanyintolu, on a Friday.

The demolition exercise follows a comprehensive structural integrity assessment of the affected building and is being conducted in accordance with internationally recognized standards for urban safety and disaster risk reduction. Dr. Okosanyintolu urged residents, traders, and the public to strictly adhere to safety measures during the operation.

The area surrounding the demolition site has been designated as a hazard zone, and unauthorized persons are warned to stay away. The operation will involve various agencies, including the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring public safety throughout the process.

The demolition site will remain cordoned off, and a public awareness campaign will continue to discourage gatherings around the area.
