Plateau State Confirms 4 Deaths from Lassa Fever Outbreak, Cases Rise to 11

Plateau State in Nigeria has reported 4 deaths from Lassa Fever, with the total number of cases reaching 11. Dr.

Nichola Baamlong, the Commissioner of Health, disclosed this information during a press briefing on a Saturday. The outbreak was first alerted in December 2025, with the initial cases reported in Quanpan local government area.

Contact tracing efforts identified 69 contacts, leading to 16 suspected cases and 5 confirmed positive cases. The state has documented a total of 28 suspected cases and 6 confirmed cases as of 2026.

The fatalities occurred at major health facilities in the state, including Jos University Teaching Hospital and Plateau Specialist Hospital. Health authorities are actively conducting case searches, surveillance, and deploying rapid response teams to affected communities.
