NGE to Host Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on Elections

The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) announced it will host the fourth Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture on July 23, 2026, at Sheraton Hotel Ikeja, Lagos. The lecture will focus on the theme "Media, INEC, and Voter Path to Credible Elections," aiming to deepen Nigeria's democratic process.

Prof. Sylvest Odion Akhain from Lagos State University will deliver the keynote address, while Dr.

Kayode Fayemi, former governor of Ekiti State, will serve as the chairman of the event. Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to be the chief host, with Alhaji Moham Idri as the special guest of honor.

Prominent media figures and public officials, including Chief Segun Osoba and Sam Amuka, are also expected to attend. The lecture aims to serve as a platform for media leaders and civil society actors to discuss the role of the press in strengthening democracy.

The event will also provide opportunities for students from Caleb University and Lagos State University to engage with practicing journalists.
