Stakeholders Urge Peaceful, Credible Elections in Nigeria

Stakeholders from civil society organizations, community leadership, the media, women, and youth groups convened for a two-day Community Dialogue on Electoral Integrity, themed ‘Trusted Voices for Credible Elections,’ held from August 11 to 12, 2026, at Signature Tower Hotel, Ibadan, Oyo State. Organized by the Fundación para la Internacionalización de las Administraciones Públicas (FIAP) under the European Union Support to ECOWAS in Peace, Security and Governance (EPSG) Project, the event gathered 40 key stakeholders from seven states in Nigeria’s South-West and North-Central geopolitical zones.

Participants discussed challenges to electoral integrity and emphasized the need for peaceful elections, urging political actors to reject violence and intimidation. They stated, “No political ambition is worth the loss of a life.” The dialogue also highlighted the importance of restoring public confidence in electoral institutions and combating misinformation, particularly on social media.

Stakeholders called for greater transparency and accountability in electoral processes, asserting that informed citizens are crucial for responsible electoral choices.
