Launch Design and Hybrid Motor Nigeria Partner for EV Plants

Launch Design, based in Shanghai, and Hybrid Motor Nigeria have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement to establish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing and assembly operations in Lagos and Abuja. The agreement, signed on May 8, 2026, aims to support technology transfer and workforce training, gradually developing Nigeria's electric vehicle supply chain.

The partnership is a significant milestone for Nigeria's homegrown electric vehicle brand, combining local assembly with advanced automotive engineering expertise. The two firms plan to establish manufacturing facilities with an annual production capacity of 70,000 units at full maturity, with Lagos serving as the primary assembly hub.

The Lagos facility, located along the Lekki-Epe axis, is expected to produce 50,000 units annually, while the Abuja facility will operate as a secondary manufacturing technology center with a capacity of 20,000 units. This initiative is projected to create job opportunities, reduce vehicle import dependence, and strengthen Nigeria's position in the automotive industry.
