Launch Design, Hybrid Motor Nigeria Partner for EV Plants

On May 8, 2026, Launch Design and Hybrid Motor Nigeria signed a strategic partnership agreement in Shanghai to establish electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing plants in Lagos and Abuja. This collaboration marks a significant advancement in Nigeria's automotive sector, focusing on developing vehicles suited for local road conditions.

The partnership combines Hybrid Motor Nigeria's expertise in the local market with Launch Design's global automotive engineering capabilities. The Lagos facility, located along the Lekki-Epe axis, is expected to have an annual production capacity of 50,000 units, serving as the primary assembly hub, while the Abuja plant will target 20,000 units annually and function as a secondary technology center.

The initiative aims to reduce logistics costs, improve operational efficiency, and create job opportunities across Nigeria. The project aligns with the federal government's National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) and is anticipated to strengthen Nigeria's position as a regional automotive manufacturing hub.
