Benue ADC Aspirant Advocates Local Govt Autonomy for Security

Peter Adejoh, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Benue State, highlights the critical role of local government autonomy in addressing Nigeria's security challenges. Adejoh stresses that granting full financial and administrative autonomy to local governments is crucial to effectively tackle insecurity, especially at the grassroots level.

He notes that insecurity often originates at the community level due to the lack of resources and authority at the local council level. Adejoh argues that empowering local councils to design and implement programs that engage young people can help reduce crime and poverty, particularly in rural areas.

He criticizes the joint account system between states and local governments, which he believes hinders grassroots development and effective security management. Adejoh pledges to ensure that funds meant for local governments are released directly without interference if elected governor, holding leaders accountable for security and welfare.

He also emphasizes the importance of cooperation among local governments, traditional rulers, and security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and response to security threats, advocating for the resettlement of displaced persons and community reconstruction in Benue State.
