Labour Party Excludes Itself from Ibadan Coalition Talks

Philip Agbes, the deputy spokesman for the Labour Party, has stated that the party is not participating in coalition discussions taking place in Ibadan among various opposition parties, including the People's Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, and New Nigeria People's Party. These talks are aimed at potentially presenting a united presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

Agbes emphasized that the Labour Party's immediate priority is its national convention set for April 28, which aims to strengthen internal processes ahead of the elections. He noted that the party is focused on expanding its membership base and enhancing internal democracy.

Agbes cautioned against premature coalition commitments, stressing the importance of stabilizing the party internally before engaging in broader political arrangements. The Ibadan meeting is part of ongoing consultations among opposition figures, reflecting concerns about the fragmentation of Nigeria's opposition landscape following the 2023 elections.
