Madugu Faces Selection Dilemma Ahead of WAFCON 2025

Justin Madugu, the coach of the Nigeria Women's National Football Team, is experiencing a selection headache as the team ramps up preparations for the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) scheduled from July 25 to August 16 in Morocco. Following a 2-1 victory against Senegal at Remo Star Stadium, Madugu acknowledged the challenge of selecting players for the final squad.

Asisat Oshoala scored from the penalty spot, and Toni Payne contributed to the win, although Senegal managed to score late in the match. Madugu expressed the importance of evaluating player performances and ensuring that every player understands their role in the team.

He emphasized that the upcoming friendly match would be crucial for finalizing the squad, with players like Comfort Erhabor, Chiamaka Nnadozi, and others vying for positions. The tournament will also serve as a qualifier for the next FIFA Women’s World Cup, with the top four teams gaining direct entry.
