Madugu Considers Nnadozie Replacement for Key Playoff

Justin Madugu, the current coach of the Super Falcons, indicated that he may substitute goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in their upcoming World Cup playoff match against South Africa. This decision follows Nnadozie's misjudgment of a long-range free-kick during Nigeria's 1-0 loss to Cameroon in the WAFCON quarter-finals, where she was criticized for allowing the ball to go under her at the near post.

Despite supporting Nnadozie, Madugu admitted that exploring other options may be necessary due to the team's defensive struggles, which have seen them concede six goals in four matches. Nnadozie has faced criticism for previous performances, including conceding three goals to Malawi and two to Egypt, although she had clean sheets against Zambia.

The Super Falcons must win against South Africa to secure a place in the intercontinental playoff stage, as their loss to Cameroon eliminated them from automatic qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
