Makinde Calls for Strong Opposition at Oyo Summit

During the opposition leaders summit held at the banquet hall of the Oyo State Government House in Ibadan, Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, stressed that Nigeria cannot afford a weak opposition. The summit attracted leaders from various political parties, including the People's Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The event, chaired by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, focused on the theme of unity among opposition parties to sustain democracy. Makinde remarked that the current socio-economic and security challenges in Nigeria require collaboration and honest dialogue among political actors.

He expressed concern over the alleged bias of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stating that it has lost the confidence of the Nigerian people and is no longer an impartial umpire. Prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other former governors, attended the summit to discuss strategies for strengthening the opposition.
