Makinde to Announce Presidential Bid as PDP Leadership Shifts

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State is preparing to declare his presidential ambition as the People's Democratic Party (PDP) undergoes significant leadership changes. Tanimu Turaki is anticipated to be appointed as the chairman of a new 10-member caretaker committee, which will be unveiled on Monday.

This development follows a Supreme Court ruling on April 30, which invalidated the PDP national convention held in Ibadan on November 15-16, citing a violation of a restraining order and creating a leadership vacuum within the party. Adolphu Wabara, a former Senate President, emphasized the need for party stability and reconciliation in light of internal disputes.

He accused some party members of orchestrating sabotage aimed at weakening the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections. The caretaker committee is expected to facilitate the resumption of normalcy within the party and address the leadership crisis.
