Malaria Prevalence in Ondo Drops to 13% Due to Project
The malaria prevalence in Ondo State has decreased from 27% to 13%, attributed to the successful implementation of the World Bank-supported IMPACT Malaria Project. This project was executed by the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) in collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Health.
During the close-out ceremony held on Monday in Akure, Dr. Charles Mensah, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director of IHVN, praised the project for its significant impact and acknowledged the Ondo State Government's support. The World Bank invested approximately N1.5 billion in the project, which commenced in 2024.
Dr. Pwanedo Nzomisaki, a World Bank representative, noted that the project achieved remarkable results in a short time. Under-five mortality rates also saw a decline from 65% to 15%.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Banji Ajaka, reported that the project revitalized 102 primary healthcare facilities and improved immunization coverage.
