Pest Control Outreach Aims to Reduce Malaria Deaths in Nigeria

In observance of World Mosquito Day, Mr. Bamidele Abiru, a pest control expert from Greenbox Facilities Limited, organized a medical outreach in Gosa Community, Federal Capital Territory, focusing on malaria prevention. He highlighted that Nigeria accounts for 200,000 of the 600,000 to 700,000 malaria-related deaths in Sub-Saharan Africa annually.

Abiru stressed the importance of preventing mosquito breeding by maintaining clean environments, eliminating stagnant water, and clearing overgrown vegetation. Dr. Nnena Ogbulafor, Coordinator of the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP), represented by Mr. Henry Odume, echoed the call for environmental preservation to reduce malaria prevalence, which has decreased from 18.8% in 2021 to 7.9% in 2025 in the Federal Capital Territory.
