Malawi's Chawinga Sisters Stun Algeria 3-1, Reach First WAFCON Final

Malawi's women's football team, the Scorchers, have qualified for the final of the CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations after a 3-1 victory over Algeria in their semi-final match on Wednesday. The tournament debutants achieved the feat through goals from sisters Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga, who combined to score all three goals for their nation.

The win marks a historic moment for Malawi football, as they become the first tournament newcomers since Zimbabwe in 2000 to reach a WAFCON final. Algeria's challenge was significantly undermined in the opening stages when defender Morgane Belkhiter was shown a red card, forcing the North African side to compete with 10 players for the majority of the match.

Malawi capitalised on their numerical advantage, breaking through in the 33rd minute. Despite Algeria's attempts to remain competitive thereafter, the Scorchers sustained their lead and added further goals to secure the convincing margin of victory.
