Anambra Man Alleges Police Harassment Over Sexual Identity

Onyebuchi Attansey, a 48-year-old indigene of Anambra State, expressed concerns for his safety due to alleged threats from community members after his sexual orientation was revealed. In an interview, Attansey recounted his introduction to homosexuality by his best friend and the subsequent negative reaction from his parents, particularly his father, who subjected him to physical abuse.

The situation escalated when Attansey and his then-partner, Tony, were arrested by police officers while returning from a party, suspected of being fraudsters. During the police search, explicit images of Attansey and Tony were discovered, leading to Tony's continued detention and the public exposure of Attansey's sexual identity.

This revelation has made Attansey vulnerable to hostility from his community. He now fears potential arrest and conviction due to his sexual orientation and is appealing for protection and assistance to live a normal life like any other Nigerian.
