LASU Graduate Awwal Ishola Turns Down Job for Degree

Awwal Opeyemi Ishola, a graduate from the Lagos State University (LASU) with a degree in Accounting, shared his inspiring journey on LinkedIn in September 2026. In 2018, instead of waiting for university admission, he enrolled in a polytechnic, graduating in 2020 with a Distinction as the Best Graduating Student in Accountancy.

He received a job offer that included a company car but chose to pursue further education after receiving advice from a mentor. Ishola learned that his polytechnic results qualified him for Direct Entry into LASU.

Despite facing challenges, including a shift in admission criteria that initially hindered his chances, he persevered, re-sat the JAMB examination, and secured admission into LASU. He graduated with First Class Honours and became a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and the Association of Accounting Technicians of West Africa.

Ishola also held various leadership roles within the student union, reflecting on his journey as one of discipline and support.
