Dakuku Peterside Advocates for Enhanced Management in Nigeria

At the Nigerian Institute of Management’s 65th Annual Conference held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Dakuku Peterside, former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), stated that management should encompass more than just revenue collection. He urged the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) to adopt an advocacy role to optimize Nigeria's resources, enhancing the dignity of its citizens and the potential of its manpower.

Peterside noted that only the Nigeria Revenue Service is authorized to collect revenue and emphasized that NIMASA should not merely remit funds to the Federal Government but should also demonstrate its capacity to enhance Nigeria's maritime potential. He highlighted that during his tenure, NIMASA's remittance grew from $2 billion to $60 billion.

Peterside argued that if NIMASA operated at a higher capacity, it could contribute significantly to Nigeria's GDP, which he compared unfavorably to countries like Botswana and Singapore. He called for NIM to ensure integrity, transparency, and efficiency in management across all agencies.
