Experts Urge Stronger Institutions for Nigeria's Growth

At the 2026 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) (Chartered), professionals emphasized the need for prudent management and stronger institutions to foster Nigeria's growth. Dr. Dakuku Peterside, the conference theme speaker, highlighted that Nigeria's primary challenge lies not in a lack of resources but in weak institutional governance.

He advocated for a shift from personality-driven leadership to institution-driven governance, stressing the importance of competence, merit, and continuity in appointments. Peterside argued that political transitions should not disrupt institutional knowledge and systems, urging for a culture of merit in public management.

He also called for greater investment in human capacity, asserting that strong institutions depend on well-trained personnel. The keynote speaker, His Royal Majesty Oba (Dr.) Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, echoed these sentiments, stating that no nation can surpass the strength of its institutions.

The conference underscored the necessity of continuous training and accountability in enhancing national development.
