Akwa Ibom Police Address Maritime Security Threats

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Baba Moham Azar, has identified complex security threats facing Nigeria's maritime sector, including sea piracy, armed robbery, and oil theft. During a visit from Rear Admiral M.

Muy and members of the Naval Warfare College, Azar stressed that maritime security is essential for sustainable socio-economic development. He noted that no nation can fully benefit from its maritime resources in an insecure environment.

The command is engaged in intelligence-led policing and waterway patrols to protect critical infrastructure and prevent crime. Azar outlined the importance of inter-agency cooperation involving the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Police Force, NIMASA, NSCDC, DSS, EFCC, and other stakeholders to combat maritime threats.

The command remains committed to strengthening partnerships with security agencies to safeguard national waters and promote economic growth. The insights gained from the naval visit are expected to enhance operational capabilities and address emerging maritime security challenges.
