Martins Encourages Talents from Italian Consulate Cup

Obafemi Martins, a former striker for clubs including Inter Milan and Newcastle United, has advised standout players from the maiden Italian Consulate General U-20 Cup held in Lagos to aim for careers in Serie A. The tournament took place from June 2-7 at Mobolaji Johnson Stadium and featured eight teams, including Okaka FC, Plateau United, Bendel Insurance, and 36 Lion FC.

Emmanuel Omijeh, the tournament organizer, noted the challenge of narrowing down talent from 40 players to 20 for potential trips to Italy. Ugo Bani, the Italian Consul General in Lagos, expressed satisfaction with the tournament's execution and the quality of play.

The tournament aimed to facilitate cultural exchange and provide Nigerian youth with opportunities in European football, with standout players expected to undergo trials in Italy to secure professional contracts.
