Marwa Urges Monarchs to Screen Land Buyers Against Cartels

Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), called on traditional rulers and community leaders to thoroughly vet individuals seeking to acquire farmlands in rural communities. This appeal was made to prevent drug cartels from establishing clandestine laboratories, particularly following the discovery of industrial-scale methamphetamine labs allegedly operated by a Nigerian-Mexican drug cartel in Ogun and Oyo states.

Marwa made this statement during the 10th Akinale Day celebration and the first coronation anniversary of the Towulade of Owu Akinale, Oba Oluseyi Adediran. He urged royal fathers and community leaders, especially in the South-West, to monitor the activities of strangers in their communities and to ensure that prospective buyers of farmlands are properly screened.

Marwa also emphasized the need for community-based advocacy networks to combat drug trafficking and support individuals struggling with substance dependence.
