34 Lawyers Fail Integrity Test for Federal High Court Judges' Appointment

In a recent development, 34 lawyers were removed from the process of appointing judges at the Federal High Court after failing an integrity test introduced by the National Judicial Council (NJC). The test, endorsed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, aimed to eliminate any doubts about the character of those appointed to judicial offices.

Out of the 62 applicants initially shortlisted, the disqualified lawyers were affected by petitions submitted during the screening process. The NJC disclosed that 28 nominees received a clean bill of health and will proceed to the next stage of the selection process.

This move marks a significant step in enhancing transparency and accountability in judicial appointments in Nigeria.
